Therapy OVERVIEW

Sitting in a steam room might significantly improve your cardiovascular health. A study of older individuals showed that moist heat improved circulation, especially in extremities.  Improved circulation can lead to lowered blood pressure and a healthier heart.   It can also promote healing of broken skin tissue.  Moist heat can help relieve pain and reduce  muscle damage.   Wet steam can offer some pain relief by increasing blood flow to muscles.   Experts used to think that these heated rooms only moved blood to the skin.    However, they also shift blood from your core into your muscles.

WHY This Therapy

Why would you use a steam bath?  Steam opens your pores and cleanses your skin. It can help loosen any dirt and debris buildup, which can help improve the appearance of your skin. Lowers blood pressure. The heat in a steam room can dilate, or enlarge, your blood vessels.

Who are steam baths recommended for?  Wet steam baths are generally recommended for customers of all ages

HOW OFTEN

How often should you repeat this therapy?   Experts recommend a wet steam room or bath should be used “2-3 times a week for no more than 15-30 minutes at a time,”.   Some individuals like to opt for intervals. “You can do 15 to 20 minutes inside the bath, take a 5 minute break outside the room, and then go back inside, repeating this for 3-4 cycle.

 

 

Therapy SUMMARY

 What does this therapy help to improve?  Whereas a sauna achieves its heat via a wood stove or heater.   Both are highly effective at helping you to cleanse and detox,  however steam rooms are renowned for supporting your body in its expulsion of toxins and waste product build-up.

contraindications

 Who should not use a steam sauna?  The steam bath is contraindicated to: Those suffering from heart conditions, those who have hypertension or hypo-tension and have not seen a doctor, those with kidney failure, diabetes, or epilepsy, as well as pregnant women. The steam bath should be avoided in all of these case.
